Beautiful South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe

It was cost efficient to stay closer to home this Memorial Holiday than to fly out of state. The state of economy does have something to do with my decision plus couldn’t resist the special offers from many near by destination.  At Montblue Resort Casino & Spa $29.95/night, plus buy 2 get the 3rd night FREE , was an awesome deal! Actually for me it turned out to be a buy 2 get 2 FREE. Four night stay total was $65 with tax included W-O-W I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the bill  was it a mistake? :?: Hmmmm… It was no crappy room either so spacious and roomy.

I’ve been to South Lake Tahoe many times because it’s fairly a short drive from where I live but had never gone past the tourist area along the California/Nevada state line. I love Tahoe because of the beautiful scenery and the fresh air. This time around, we took a drive a little deeper into Nevada and visited some small towns and cities. Along the way we hit Carson City – the capital of Nevada, Washoe City and end up in Reno for a couple of hours before returning back to South Lake Tahoe. It’s was a nice drive.

The weather was pleasant and hot enough for many people to soak up the sun and enjoy a day at the beach (Zephy Cove).

There were many places to eat offering a variety of choices and at great bargains especially in the casinos but even so it’s not the same as Cambodian food. It’s okay, I can deal with a couple of days away from fish sauce. grin:

Oh and on the way to Lake Tahoe, we stop by in Sacramento to try out this Vietnamese restaurant called “Quan Nem Ninh Hoa”. I was browsing around Yelp.com and this place had good reviews and ratings. If I were to see this along the road I probably wouldn’t even stop by to try it because I don’t even know what the name means. One dish that caught my attention was this one called “Banh Beo” -rice cakes? :?:   I ordered it as an appetizer but it was served after I ate my bowl of their special seafood noodle. I was a bit disappointed but because of it’s distinctive look I tried it anyways. Maybe one of these days I will try making it at home. Looks fun and easy to make.
