Synopsis

Up (2009) | Pixar Movie

After going to several theaters around the Bay on Sunday (Emeryville AMC, Union City Century Theaters) only to find it was sold out, it just made me eager to watch it. Finally we got to see on Monday.  This was my first 3D experience  at an IMAX theater. I had an AMC coupon but they didn’t honer it for some reason so I had to pay full price. It was very expensive but I wanted to experience what it was like, so I just . It was so K-O-O-L, now if only they had the seat motion to go along then it would be just like the rides in Universal Studios Hollywood.

I LOVE this movie. Russell was the star. He is so cute, adorable and hilarious at time. People in the theater could not stop laughing (most were adults). It was a heart warming movie and at the end, I did get a bit touchy. I would not mind watching this again whether it’s in 3D or not.  Everybody should go watch this movie.

Beautiful South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe

It was cost efficient to stay closer to home this Memorial Holiday than to fly out of state. The state of economy does have something to do with my decision plus couldn’t resist the special offers from many near by destination.  At Montblue Resort Casino & Spa $29.95/night, plus buy 2 get the 3rd night FREE , was an awesome deal! Actually for me it turned out to be a buy 2 get 2 FREE. Four night stay total was $65 with tax included W-O-W I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the bill  was it a mistake? :?: Hmmmm… It was no crappy room either so spacious and roomy.

I’ve been to South Lake Tahoe many times because it’s fairly a short drive from where I live but had never gone past the tourist area along the California/Nevada state line. I love Tahoe because of the beautiful scenery and the fresh air. This time around, we took a drive a little deeper into Nevada and visited some small towns and cities. Along the way we hit Carson City – the capital of Nevada, Washoe City and end up in Reno for a couple of hours before returning back to South Lake Tahoe. It’s was a nice drive.

The weather was pleasant and hot enough for many people to soak up the sun and enjoy a day at the beach (Zephy Cove).

There were many places to eat offering a variety of choices and at great bargains especially in the casinos but even so it’s not the same as Cambodian food. It’s okay, I can deal with a couple of days away from fish sauce. grin:

Oh and on the way to Lake Tahoe, we stop by in Sacramento to try out this Vietnamese restaurant called “Quan Nem Ninh Hoa”. I was browsing around Yelp.com and this place had good reviews and ratings. If I were to see this along the road I probably wouldn’t even stop by to try it because I don’t even know what the name means. One dish that caught my attention was this one called “Banh Beo” -rice cakes? :?:   I ordered it as an appetizer but it was served after I ate my bowl of their special seafood noodle. I was a bit disappointed but because of it’s distinctive look I tried it anyways. Maybe one of these days I will try making it at home. Looks fun and easy to make.

Dong Poo Dee | Blue Blood Territory

Thai Lakorn : Dong Poo Dee

Opening Credits:  Watch on Youtube
Starring:  Mart Krissada & Taew Nattaporn also featuring Donut Manasnan, Nok Chatchai, Nok Jariya

I just finish watching this lakorn today.  The Khmer translation of this title would be “Trokol Nek Kpong Kpous”. According to the title of this Thai lakorn, I think it’s a remake of one that aired in the mid 90s. Although I didn’t get to watch the old version I did however see the preview (opening credits) and can still remember some of the lyrics from the chorus.

The  summary that was release at the start of airing can be found at Sarnworld Wiki however as I watch it, the storyline went off on a tangent towards the end so it’s not the same.  If you are those who only enjoy lakorn with a “kiss and slap” storyline, then this is not for you. This is a family drama and a bit on the sappy-sad side.  There’s a lot of family values being taught in this lakorn emphasizing on family respect, endurance and relationship. The saying “blood is thicker than water” was clearly illustrated in this lakorn. Taew played her role very well (I believe this is her first lakorn as the leading actress).  She is extremely good at crying scene. No matter how much I fast forward some scene, I still get emotional and choke up when I watch her cry on-screen. That’s one thing I like about watching drama in their native voice because you get to sort of feel the character more and it just looks natural and effortless :)

Although I felt that the ending was a bit of a rush (it was so different from the summary) I can’t really think of a better way to end it.  I think it’s appropriate. There weren’t many sweet scene between Mart & Taew because of their status but the drama surrounding them still kept me glued to the screen.

Anyhow, I watch this lakorn because of Mart. Currently he is my favorite actor. It was nice to see him take on a more serious and mature role than those I’ve seen him in such as Sapai Look Tong with Janie and Mae Ka Kanom Waan with Cherry.  I can’t wait to see Mart’s next lakorn.
