Homemade Cambodian style salty sun-dried fish (Trey Ngeat ត្រីងៀត) is now available for purchase. These are made by my Mother with fresh caught catfish seasoned with a combination of salt and other ingredients then sun-dried to perfection. The fish can be eaten grilled or fried. Since it is partly cooked in sun it doesn’t take long to cook at all. Serve with steamed rice or as part of a meal. Since trey ngeat has a good amount of salt in them Cambodians like to balance it out by eating them alongside some green mango salad, with watermelon, with hot rice porridge, or cold rice with water.
Pricing
The cost for approximately 1 lb (one pound) worth of salty sun-dried fish is $5 (average about 5-6 fish -depending on fish size).

Hello again! Could you tell me how much it would cost if my sister were to pick the fish up at your mother’s house?
trey ngeat is awesome. i wonder if i can make this thing my mom used to make when i was little with it… called… i think jrok krail chneang (jrok outside the pot)… with dried fish, mango, other stuff? if you know, i’d love the recipe.
Theary,
Why not? Growing up I used to eat the “soup outside pot” very often especially during the summer. My parent use fresh slice green tamarind because they were abundantly. I might try to make this and share you my recipe soon. It will be tough to get my hands on those green tamarind this time of year, but like you mentioned, probably green mango would worked too. Stay tuned!
Khatiya how much is estimated shipping cost to the east coast, Mass area?
Mony,
Pricing will depend on the quantity ordered. I’ve just added a cart so that it will calculate shipping for you. The more items you purchase, the move you save on shipping. To find out, just add the items you want into the cart and input your zip code. It will show you the total price. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hi, I like to pick up 4 lbs of trey gneat. My sister, Sophany had just sent you a request also. Please let me know when I can pick them up.
Thanks.
Pam
Hi Pam,
I’ve replied to Sophany already telling her that she can stop by my Mother’s place anytime to pick up $20 worth of fish anytime today. Preferably around 2pm.
Hi, I’ve been out all day didn’t get to check your respond. Is it possible to stop by sometime tomorrow? Please also give me the address to your mother’s house.
Thanks,
Pam
The trey-ngeat are very yummy. Your mother did an excellent job making them. =)
Where do you get the fishes from? I like to know the source before I order it.Thanks
ling-ling,
The fish used is catfish. Where it comes from varies from supermarket.
Received the fish yesterday and it is delicious! Tell your mom I said thank you for the yummy fish!!
I went thru your messages, and you mentioned that your mom bought catfish to make those trey ngeat. I thought our khmer people use trey rouss to make trey ngeat. how does it taste with the catfish?
Raksa,
If only Trey Ross is widely available and affordable then it would be much easier to make it with them. However, we live in the states and can only utilize the resource that we have. How does it taste with catfish? Well, you can read the comments from other buyers, or better yet try them yourself.
hi i want to buy some of the fish but i live in PA philadelphia do you ship them if you do how much does it cost
Phalla,
At the moment we are totally SOLD OUT of fish. I’ve removed it from the shopping cart and will update this page once it’s available again.
